Baseball Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

Dayton couldn't beat Elko on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Dust Devils fell just short of the Indians by a score of 7-6. The Dust Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Dayton got a good showing from Kadyn Clifford, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Clifford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Duke Evans made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Jeffcoat, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Elko, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Indians beat Dayton by a score of 5-4 on Saturday.
