Basketball Recap: Bayside Comes Up Short

Bayside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Mainland Buccaneers 90-39. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-16.

Bayside's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Derrickson, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 14 points. That was a full 35.9% of the Bears' points, marking the third time in a row Derrickson has posted more than a third of the team's points. Kody Grodecky was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Kade Manley was a one-man wrecking crew For Mainland. as he shot 80% from the field en route to 23 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Those seven assists gave Manley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Canyon Powers, who went 8-for-13 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Bayside's loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Bayside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 78-62 defeat against Vero Beach on the 22nd. As for Mainland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-31 victory against Ocoee on the 26th.
