Softball Recap: Lamar Gets the Win

The Lamar Tigers were able to grind out a solid win over the Wheaton Bulldogs on Thursday, taking the game 10-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Lexy Stephen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matchups.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Eddie, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Maylee Rawlings was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lamar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Lamar's record is now 7-9. As for Wheaton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-3.

Lamar didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 victory against Diamond on the 13th. Wheaton has also already played their next matchup (against Northeast Vernon County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
