Softball Recap: Yorktown Tigers vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

In what's become a running theme this season, Yorktown gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Greenfield-Central Cougars as the Yorktown Tigers made off with an 11-1 win. Winning may never get old, but Yorktown sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Caitlin Laferney was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Laferney has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Laferney was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Yorktown got a massive performance out of Olivia Jaromin, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Jaromin is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now hit three or more in the last three games she's played. Claire Hazen was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

On Greenfield-Central's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savvanna Riall, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Yorktown pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Greenfield-Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.

Yorktown will head out on the road to square off against Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yorktown knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Westfield likes a good challenge. As for Greenfield-Central, they will be playing at home against Mt. Vernon at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
