Friars top Holy Trinity 28-21 in the CHSFL AAA championship.

An explosive offensive attack, led by Tom Schreiber’s 161 passing yards and 73 yards on the ground, gave St. Anthony a 28-21 victory over Holy Trinity in the CHSFL AAA championship game. The win gave St. Anthony its eighth title in the past nine years. Holy Trinity’s Anthony Brunetti ended his outstanding season with 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Last season, the Friars were beaten in the title game as Schreiber watched from the sideline with an injury. The senior quarterback was happy to reclaim the championship. “It felt great to get the win today,” Schreiber said. Tim Wine had 4 catches for 100 yards for the Friars.

The first half was a defensive battle as neither team scored. St. Anthony got on the board on its first possession of the second half when Schreiber connected with Wine for a 49-yard touchdown pass. The PAT gave the Friars a 7-0 lead.

The Titans answered with a score of their own. Freshman quarterback Chris Laviano hooked up with D.J. Joseph for a 55-yard touchdown pass. Pat Dreiss hit the PAT to tie the score.

After St. Anthony took the lead on a touchdown run by Colby Fielder, Brunetti did what he has done all season.
The senior running back, who ended the season with 2,449 yards, broke free and went 77 yards for the score.
St. Anthony went ahead to stay when Jaffrea Corley-Woods took it in from 31 yards out. The Friars’ defense held the Titans to a three-and-out on their next possession, and St. Anthony added an insurance touchdown on the ensuing drive.

Brunetti capped off the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run, his 28th of the season. He was very proud of the way the Titans played in 2009, and described his four years as the Titans running back as “This was an unbelievable experience.”
