Basketball Recap: Jeremiah Barnes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Purnell Swett over Douglas Byrd + How To Watch

Purnell Swett extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Monday, dropping them down to 0-3. They fell 75-65 to the Douglas Byrd Eagles. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Barnes, who posted 18 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Locklear, who shot 50% from the field en route to 17 points and five boards.

As for Douglas Byrd, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 76.5 points this season.

Douglas Byrd's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marcus 'MJ' McDuffie, who went 9-for-10 to rack up 21 points and eight rebounds. Malachi McDuffie was another key player, shooting 56% from the field on his way to 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Purnell Swett wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-51 victory against North Brunswick on the 25th. As for Douglas Byrd, they have also already played their next contest, a 65-43 win against Red Springs on the 25th.
