Football Recap: Wrigley Roberts and Carter Cooper Pace Union Grove Defense

Union Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Beckville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lions fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 20-17 on Friday. The game was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.

Union Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Wrigley Roberts and Carter Cooper.

Beckville was led to victory by Grayson Hicks and Rudy Watts. Hicks gained 69 total yards and a touchdown, while Watts gained 121 total yards and a touchdown. Hicks also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making seven total tackles and defending one pass.

Union Grove's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Beckville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Union Grove will be playing in front of their home fans against Big Sandy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Beckville, they are taking a road trip to take on Ore City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats are facing the Rebels at the right time seeing as the Rebels are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
