Basketball Recap: Alma Cardinals vs. Southern Valley Eagles
The Alma Cardinals lost against the Southern Valley Eagles last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Alma took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Alma has scored all season.
Alma's loss came despite strong showings from Tierston Moore and Addison Siebels. Moore scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, while Siebels scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Moore has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played.
Alma's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-3. As for Southern Valley, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 20-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alma will square off against the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 251st in Kansas, while the Cardinals are ranked 45th in Nebraska). As for Southern Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully South Loup focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
