Recap: Classical Prep Lions vs. Gulf Buccaneers

The Classical Prep Lions struggled with assists on Thursday (the Gulf Buccaneers had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Classical Prep lost to Gulf at home by a decisive 59-44 margin. Classical Prep has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Classical Prep's loss came despite strong showings from Kaelyn Malloy and Mia Milanes. Malloy scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Milanes almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. That was a full 45.5% of Classical Prep's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Gulf to victory were Tajinae Bonney and Brenniyah Hall. Bonney dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 steals, while Hall dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 steals. Hall is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kristin Erstentine was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five steals.

Classical Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Gulf, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-14.

Classical Prep will take on Hernando Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Classical Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 46 on Thursday. As for Gulf, they and Shorecrest Prep will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Shorecrest Prep comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
