Basketball Recap: Tegon Hergott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Thayer Central over Sandy Creek

Thayer Central fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Sandy Creek on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Sandy Creek Cougars by a score of 40-38. The matchup marked the Titans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Thayer Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tegon Hergott, who posted four points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the most blocks Hergott has posted since back in February of 2024. Lukas Kroll also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Sandy Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Clark, who scored ten points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Kamerin Sealey, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.

Thayer Central's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Sandy Creek, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Thayer Central will head out to face off against Tri County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Tri County and three for Thayer Central. As for Sandy Creek, they will welcome Fairbury at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandy Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
