Basketball Recap: Mary Persons' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mary Persons can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 38-22 victory over the Whitewater Wildcats. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-26 back in December of 2024.

Leading Mary Persons to victory were Zoey Shannon and MiMi McCord. Shannon dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while McCord went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points and six boards. McCord is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Gantt, who posted three points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Mary Persons' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for Whitewater, they dropped their record down to 1-19 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home.

Mary Persons will head out to square off against Spalding at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mary Persons is facing Spalding at the right time seeing as Spalding is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Whitewater, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-7 defeat against Sandy Creek on the 25th.
