Softball Recap: Lakeland Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lakeland won the last time they faced Walled Lake Western and things went their way on Thursday too. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Warriors. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Melina Wing spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Goldman, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Izzi Vacca also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 13-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory (which was Lakeland's third in a row) raised their record to 17-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Walled Lake Western, their loss was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-15.

Lakeland will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair will be back at it again later today.
