After flying high against San Dieguito Academy last Tuesday, Westview came back down to earth. Westview fell just short of the Escondido Cougars by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The Wolverines' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Charles Jaskowiak put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Jaskowiak wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mahir Desai, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Desai also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Westview's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Escondido, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Westview and Escondido could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Westview will face off against Green Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday down 353 places (369 vs. 16). Meanwhile, Escondido (ranked 99th) will meet Durango (ranked 19th) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
