Basketball Recap: Dutch Martinez Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Poston Butte over ALA - Queen Creek

If Poston Butte was riding high fresh off their 57-36 takedown of Crismon last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Poston Butte Broncos fell 59-50 to the ALA - Queen Creek Patriots on Thursday. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Poston Butte's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dutch Martinez Jr, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jordan Hardge, who had nine points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Poston Butte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

ALA - Queen Creek had a senior duo take command as Layfe Clarkson went 5-for-12 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds and Tyson Kimball put up 13 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhett Sherwood, who scored seven points.

Poston Butte's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for ALA - Queen Creek, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-9.

Poston Butte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-54 win against Eastmark on the 11th. As for ALA - Queen Creek, they have also already played their next game, a 76-35 victory against Crismon on the 11th.
