Football Game Preview: Park City Miners vs. Provo Bulldogs

The Park City Miners will face off against the Provo Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Park City beat Salem Hills 30-17. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Miners.

Josh Hofer went supernova, rushing for 120 yards and one score on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Park City proved: they limited Salem Hills to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Wyatt Knapp for the heroic effort on defense: he. Park City's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.15 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.33 on average over their last five games.

Park City didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Knapp and Ben Souza. Souza has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 12 times he's played.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Provo). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Timpanogos 61-24. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Gehrig Orchard and Andrew Hillstead. Orchard had a great game and threw for 440 yards and seven TDs while completing 80% of his passes. Meanwhile, Hillstead was balling out in the loss, throwing for 399 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also punching in one score on the ground.

Provo's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Park City, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
