Baseball Recap: Firth Comes Up Short

Firth entered their game against Salmon on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cougars fell just short of the Savages by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Savages this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-5 on Friday.

Grant Vasquez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Teagan Gray was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Firth suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 11-7. As for Salmon, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-4.

Coming up, Firth will head out to square off against West Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.22 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Salmon, they will face off against Corvallis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
