Softball Preview: Rittman Indians vs. Central Christian Comets

The Rittman Indians will venture away from home to face off against the Central Christian Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Rittman is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Rittman came up short against Coventry and fell 4-1.

Lillian Halliwell put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Halliwell wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cailin Tyree, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Central Christian took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past Aquinas 9-3.

Like Rittman, Central Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Micah Kozel Steiner. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kozel Steiner was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edisa Plants, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Adeline Aubrey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Central Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aquinas only posted a batting average of .200.

Rittman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Central Christian, their record is now 1-0.

Everything went Rittman's way against Central Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2022, as Rittman made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
