Softball Recap: Volcano Vista Falls Short Against Ranked Rio Rancho

On Thursday, Volcano Vista faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Volcano Vista Hawks lost 20-10 to the Rio Rancho Rams. The Hawks have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Breezy Griego was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emily Langley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Griego wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Volcano Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Volcano Vista's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Rio Rancho, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

Coming up, Volcano Vista will face off against Tournament Team at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rio Rancho, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Robertson at 12:00 p.m. on March 27th. One thing working in Rio Rancho's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
