Baseball Game Preview: Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars vs. Stamford Black Knights

The Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Stamford Black Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Kolbe-Cathedral can't be too happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Monday. They fell just short of Derby by a score of 7-5. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it ten in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stamford). They blew past New Canaan 10-4 on Tuesday. The Black Knights not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024.

Noe Mercedes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mercedes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Jack Gibson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aidan O'Loughlin, who fired off two home runs and one double while going 3-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was CJ Berlingo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

Stamford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Kolbe-Cathedral might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Stamford in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
