Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Cole Treva, who went 7-for-10 on his way to 18 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 53.8% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Tibbs, who shot 67% from the field en route to 13 points.
Meanwhile, Alexander Central fought the good fight in their overtime game against Newton-Conover on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 62-59. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Defeat or not, Alexander Central got some senior leadership from Noah VanBeurden and Jaheim Redmond. VanBeurden posted 24 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Redmond earned 20 points and three steals. VanBeurden's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 24 points. Kade Flowers was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.
Ashe County's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Alexander Central, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Ashe County has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Alexander Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
