Baseball Recap: Varina Takes a Loss

After flying high against John Marshall on Tuesday, Varina came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell 6-1 to the Monacan Chiefs on Friday. The Blue Devils were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Chiefs' pitcher proved too tough.

Mekhi Bullock was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. Payton Daniels also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

Varina now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Monacan, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Varina will take on Atlee at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Monacan, they will square off against Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chiefs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
