Basketball Recap: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Roosevelt Roughriders
The Mountain View Mountain Lions entered their tilt with the Roosevelt Roughriders with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mountain View came out on top against the Roughriders by a score of 59-46 on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mountain View also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Mountain View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyson Mares-Benz, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Mares-Benz is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Grayson Morby was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost, one person who can't be blamed is Seppe Salvatore. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 41.3% of Roosevelt's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nolan Peterson, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Mountain View's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Roosevelt, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.
Mountain View will head out on the road to challenge the Ravens at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverdale Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mountain Lions in Colorado (the Ravens are ranked 42nd, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 184th). As for Roosevelt, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Morgan is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
