Basketball Recap: Lilly Ann Jennings' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Collierville over Valley Springs

After flying high against Cabot on Friday, Collierville came back down to earth. The Collierville Dragons fell just short of the Valley Springs Tigers by a score of 55-53 on Saturday.

Collierville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lilly Ann Jennings, who posted ten points and three steals. Jennings has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Alexis Anderson was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Collierville's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Valley Springs, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Collierville and Valley Springs should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Collierville (ranked 53rd) will meet Cordova (ranked 216th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Collierville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season. Similarly, Valley Springs (ranked 23rd) will meet Flippin (ranked 89th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
