Basketball Recap: Immanuel Sets Scoring Season-High Against Tulare Western

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Immanuel). They walked away with an 82-70 victory over the Tulare Western Mustangs on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 735th, while the Mustangs are ranked 365th).

Immanuel was led to victory by James Galpin and Owen Jackson. Galpin dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, while Jackson posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Joseph, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Tulare Western still got an impressive performance from Malachi Ficher, who went 9 of 21 on his way to 26 points along with six assists and five boards. That was a full 37.1% of Tulare Western's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Leonardo Lemus was another key player, putting up nine points along with six boards and three steals.

Immanuel's record now sits at 5-9. As for Tulare Western, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Porterville the next time they take the court. Tulare Western will head out to face Porterville at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, while Immanuel will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
