Basketball Recap: Cox Mill Comes Up Short at Home Against Weddington + How To Watch

Cox Mill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 71-65 to the Weddington Warriors on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Cox Mill's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Makih Philyaw, who shot 60% from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points and four steals, and Isaiah Hunter, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Thomas, who posted eight points.

Weddington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brandon Barbier led the charge by putting up 13 points along with seven assists and six boards. Those six rebounds gave Barbier a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Muteb, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

Looking ahead, Cox Mill will square off against Concord at 8:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Weddington, they have already played their next matchup, an 85-70 win against Lake Norman Charter on the 19th.
