Recap: Tupper Lake Lumberjacks vs. Potsdam Sandstoners
The Tupper Lake Lumberjacks have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Potsdam.
Tupper Lake's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Corneau, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. The game was Corneau's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Thomas Peterson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists.
Tupper Lake struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Potsdam's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ian VanWagner, who scored 23 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which VanWagner has scored at least 25% of Potsdam's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Delaney, who scored 15 points.
Tupper Lake's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Potsdam, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Tupper Lake's road trip will continue as they head out to face Madrid-Waddington at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Madrid-Waddington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 628th, while Tupper Lake is ranked 133rd). As for Potsdam, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Norwood-Norfolk at 7:15 p.m. Norwood-Norfolk comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
