Basketball Recap: Dematha Falls Short Against Ranked Bishop Mcnamara

On Saturday, DeMatha faced Bishop McNamara in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The DeMatha Stags were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 73-72 to the Bishop McNamara Mustangs. It was the first time this season that the Stags let down their fans at home.

DeMatha's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashton (Ace) Meeks, who went 8-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points. The game was Meeks' seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Wallace, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.

DeMatha's loss dropped their record down to 22-6. As for Bishop McNamara, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.

DeMatha does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop McNamara, they and Gonzaga will face off at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday without much rest, having both just played. One thing working in Gonzaga's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
