Baseball Recap: Richmond Christian Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Peninsula Catholic, Richmond Christian was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Grove Christian School Falcons. That's more bragging rights for the Warriors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kelsey Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deklen Matthews, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zack Guillory, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

The win got Richmond Christian back to even at 1-1. As for Grove Christian School, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Richmond Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Grove Christian School: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
