Football Recap: Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] had won four straight home games dating back to last season and Jayden Verrett did his part to make it five on Saturday. The Miners simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Ontonagon Gladiators 60-6 thanks in part to Verrett, who rushed for 179 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries, and also threw for 134 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. He didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass.

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Leland Hollenbeck, Cory Aspinwall, and Aiden Partanen picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Ontonagon's side was Matthew Switzer, who picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles.

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield]'s record now sits at 5-0. As for Ontonagon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
