Basketball Game Preview: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Spring Creek Spartans

Churchill County and Spring Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Churchill County Greenwave just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Spring Creek Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Creek took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Churchill County, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Churchill County beat Elko 41-34.

Meanwhile, Spring Creek unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell 55-42 to Murrieta Valley. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 41st in Nevada, while the Nighthawks are ranked 341st in California).

Churchill County will need focus on slowing down Rhiwan Williams, one of several Spring Creek players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Sorenson, who put up five points and 14 rebounds.

Churchill County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Spring Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Churchill County took their win against Spring Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 46-25. Does Churchill County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Spring Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
