Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence lost against Rocky River back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Independence Patriots took a blow against the Rocky River Ravens, falling 61-24. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while the Ravens are ranked 168th).

Rocky River was led to victory by Camille Montgomery and Tristin Jarrett. Montgomery went 11-for-18 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds, while Jarrett went 7-for-15 en route to 16 points along with eight assists and six boards. That's the most assists Jarrett has posted since back in December of 2024. MaKenzie Michael was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six boards and four blocks.

Independence dropped their record down to 1-21 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Rocky River, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Coming up, Independence will square off against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rocky River, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-16 victory against West Mecklenburg on the 12th.
