Basketball Preview: Centaurus Warriors vs. Mead Mavericks

Centaurus is 0-4 against the Mavericks since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Centaurus Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Mead Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Centaurus will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Mavericks are ranked 12th).

Centaurus struggled with assists on Saturday (the Tigers had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Centaurus was dealt a 67-31 loss at the hands of the Tigers. Centaurus was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-12.

Despite the defeat, Centaurus got a solid performance out of Cameron Kidd, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kidd has scored all season.

Meanwhile, Mead entered their tilt with the Raptors with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Mead blew past the Raptors 56-35. Mead has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Mead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elena Gomez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Gianna Wurth was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.

Centaurus has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Mead, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Centaurus have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Centaurus was taken down by the Mavericks 58-18 when the teams last played back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Centaurus was down 42-7.
