League recap: Spring Garden extends winning streak with victory over Jacksonville Christian Academy

Spring Garden extended the longest winning streak in 1A Region 7 this week by beating Jacksonville Christian Academy, 42-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.

Gaylesville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cole Murphy threw for nine yards and Matthew Herrin had eight yards receiving. On the ground John David Jennings chipped in 340 yards. Jennings helped Gaylesville's passing attack out by catching one ball for one yard.

Gaylesville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Murphy has thrown for 336 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Malachii Dutton has 10 catches for 167 yards. Jennings leads the league in rushing with 793 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cedar Bluff takes on Collinsville. At the moment, the Tigers are in third, while the Panthers are in second.

The Trojans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,759 from 13,332. The advance stemmed from a 40-13 victory over Coosa Christian last week.
