Football Game Preview: Weequahic Indians vs. KIPP Newark Lab Sharks

The Weequahic Indians will head out to take on the KIPP Newark Lab Sharks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weequahic's defense has only allowed 7.3 points per game this season, so KIPP Newark Lab's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Weequahic's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 41-0 win over Union City. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

A big part of Weequahic's victory came down to the chemistry between Haddiyah Bell and her top target Heaven Porter. Bell threw for 135 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 passes while Porter gained 130 total yards and five touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 55 yards.

Weequahic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Porter and Rhodina Phillipe. Porter got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, KIPP Newark Lab unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 24-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newark Central last Tuesday.

Weequahic now has a winning record of 4-3. As for KIPP Newark Lab, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
