Football Recap: Matawan Regional Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Matawan Regional easily dispatched Long Branch last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Huskies fell just short of the Middletown North Lions by a score of 23-21 on Friday. While the Huskies had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Lions 6-0.

BlairCarter Gagneron threw for 176 yards and one touchdown. Cayson Williams was his top target, picking up 93 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Erik Martinez rushed for 54 yards.

Middletown North got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matthew Belenko out in front who rushed for 141 yards and one TD. Belenko's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 112 rushing yards. Jack Viola also helped with two touchdowns in total.

With the loss, Matawan Regional broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-3. As for Middletown North, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Matawan Regional didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-19 defeat against Shore Regional on the 24th. As for Middletown North, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 49-38 loss against Holmdel on the 24th.
