Basketball Game Preview: San Clemente Tritons vs. Los Alamitos Griffins

The San Clemente Tritons will take on the Los Alamitos Griffins in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. San Clemente knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Los Alamitos likes a good challenge.

San Clemente is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Mission Viejo: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that San Clemente blew Mission Viejo out of the water with an 80-49 final score. The Tritons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 31 points or more this season.

Christian Fernandez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 of 12 en route to 26 points. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Hansen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Los Alamitos didn't have too much trouble with Huntington Beach on Wednesday as they won 65-49. The 65-point effort marked the Griffins' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Los Alamitos has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for San Clemente, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

Things could have been worse for San Clemente, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-42 loss to Los Alamitos when the teams last played back in November of 2021. Can San Clemente avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
