Basketball Recap: Simone Lewis Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat East

Chaney hadn't done well against East recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went the Chaney Cowboys' way against East as the Chaney Cowboys made off with a 48-28 win. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while East are ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chaney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Simone Lewis led the charge by putting up 16 points along with six boards and five steals. Lewis has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last three times she's played. Alyssa Brown was another key player, earning 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals.

Chaney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Chaney is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
