Baseball Game Preview: Gross Catholic Cougars vs. Buena Vista Bison

The Gross Catholic Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Buena Vista Bison at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Last Monday, Gross Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Plattsmouth and fell 3-1.

Charlie Yeshnowski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Buena Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Bellevue East.

Buena Vista saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anderson Craig, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Craig also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Gross Catholic took their win against Buena Vista when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gross Catholic since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
