Softball Recap: Canby Cougars vs. Bend Lava Bears
Canby proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Bend Lava Bears 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 17, 2024.
Alli Hayzlett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Katelyn Vissers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Ava Heckathorn was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Canby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
