Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Delaney Russell and Haley Stepp Lead Vermilion to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Huron, Vermilion was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Perkins Pirates by a score of 3-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 back in September.

The win didn't come easy: Perkins scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20.

Vermilion was led to victory by Haley Stepp and Delaney Russell. Stepp had ten digs and four aces, while Russell had 12 digs and two assists. Russell has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last seven times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Perkins lost, don't look at Avery Maldonado. Despite the final result, she had 11 digs and three aces.

Vermilion is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. As for Perkins, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

Coming up, Vermilion will challenge Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Perkins does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
