Basketball Game Preview: Discovery Spartans vs. Sebring Blue Streaks

Two dominant guards in Darius Livingston and David Allen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Discovery Spartans will head out to take on the Sebring Blue Streaks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Discovery's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games.

On Tuesday, Discovery earned a 76-64 win over Davenport. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Broncos are ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Livingston was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points in addition to five assists and four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Redding, who went 5 of 8 en route to 12 points along with five boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, Sebring was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 64-59 to Lakeland. The Blue Streaks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Discovery will have to contain Allen as he made an impact in Sebring's last game. He went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Toney, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Sebring was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Discovery pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sebring, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Discovery didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Sebring in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with an 84-79 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Sebring's Kj Turner, who almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 13 boards, and nine assists. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for Discovery to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
