Softball Recap: Anna Comes Up Short

Anna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the McKinney North Bulldogs. The Coyotes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

Jordyn Simons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Maddie Roan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Anna's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for McKinney North, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-14-1.

Anna and McKinney North could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Coyotes will challenge Melissa at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (474 vs. 4). Meanwhile, McKinney North (ranked 674th) will meet Denison (ranked 255th) at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
