Baseball Recap: Casteel Wins Going Away Against Mountain Ridge

Casteel was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mountain Ridge on Monday. Everything went the Casteel Colts' way against the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions as the Casteel Colts made off with a 16-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Connor Russell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Casteel's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Ryne Barker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Casteel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Ridge only posted an OBP of .323.

Casteel has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Mountain Ridge is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Casteel will challenge Horizon at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Casteel's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Horizon's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mountain Ridge, they will face off against Millennium at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
