Basketball Recap: Owen Zachery's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rushville over Batesville

Rushville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Batesville Bulldogs. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 44-36 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Rushville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Owen Zachery, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Chase, who had seven points and eight rebounds.

Batesville found their leader in sophomore James Hughes, who went 8-for-11 en route to 21 points and six boards. Winston Garrett also deserves some recognition as he scored his first point of the season.

Rushville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Batesville, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Coming up, Rushville will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Delta at 7:30 p.m. As for Batesville, they have already played their next match, a 61-43 loss against East Central on the 15th.
