Softball Recap: Spanish River Takes a Loss

Spanish River suffered their closest defeat since March 28, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Park Vista Cobras by a score of 5-3. The Sharks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cobras apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Giselle Portanova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Spanish River saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrianna Boucher, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kat Arencibia also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Spanish River and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Park Vista, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Coming up, Spanish River will challenge Boca Raton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Boca Raton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something Spanish River will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Park Vista, they will face off against South Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Fork's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Park Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
