Preview: Tuscola Mountaineers vs. Smoky Mountain Mustangs
Tuscola is 2-8 against Smoky Mountain since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tuscola Mountaineers will head out on the road to face off against the Smoky Mountain Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Tuscola, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-38 loss to Pisgah. Tuscola has struggled against Pisgah recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Karsen Cherry, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Nora Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Smoky Mountain's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Franklin 66-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Smoky Mountain has suffered since December 15, 2023.
Tuscola has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Smoky Mountain, they bumped their record down to 6-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Tuscola was taken down by Smoky Mountain 61-13 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Tuscola avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
