Basketball Recap: Weslaco Panthers vs. Taft Raiders
Weslaco had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 65-55 victory over the Taft Raiders on Saturday.

Weslaco was led to victory by Kai L Fino and Michael Fuentes. L Fino shot 60% from the field en route to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists, while Fuentes went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and five boards. Those 24 points gave L Fino a new career-high. Kade Lopez was another key player, going 5-for-10 to rack up 11 points and four steals.
Despite the loss, Taft still got an impressive performance from Axel Tsague, who posted 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Tsague has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyan Berry, who had ten points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.
Taft's defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.
Coming up, Weslaco will host Pace at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Taft, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Jay at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
