Basketball Game Preview: Hopewell Blue Devils vs. Highland Springs Springers

The Hopewell Blue Devils will take on the Highland Springs Springers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hopewell is headed into Wednesday's matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of L.C. Bird on Friday. The contest marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Highland Springs entered their tilt with Massaponax on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 56-28. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Springers just coasted through the last quarter.

Hopewell better keep an eye on Samaya Brown. She was instrumental in Highland Springs' win, putting up 16 points. That's the most points Brown has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jesiah Young, who posted 11 points.

Highland Springs pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Hopewell, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Hopewell was dealt a bruising 60-27 loss at the hands of Highland Springs in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Can Hopewell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
