Softball Game Preview: Bryan Vikings vs. Midway Panthers

Bryan is 2-7 against Midway since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vikings will square off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m.

Temple hit Bryan with a five-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell 9-4 to the Wildcats.

Lily Castro was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Bryan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jeselen Tijerina, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midway). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Killeen a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Midway is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Bryan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Bryan might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Midway in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
