Hickory had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They breezed past the St. Stephens Indians to the tune of 79-39. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-27.
Despite the loss, St. Stephens still got an impressive performance from Jachavis Sherrill, who posted 16 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Sherrill's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. Maddox Zablan also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, St. Stephens fell to 6-1.
Coincidentally, Hickory and St. Stephens will both be playing Bunker Hill the next time they take the court. The Indians will head out to face the Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Red Tornadoes will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
